Every time we hear about Late Model Racecraft, they’re always breaking another horsepower world record, setting a record quarter-mile time, or just creating something downright awesome.
You might remember a couple of weeks back when we wrote about their LMR800 twin-turbo packaged-C7, it was running the quarter-mile in 10.2 seconds at 140 mph with the factory torque converter and 2.73 gears. Yesterday, LMR released a video on their YouTube channel of their twin-turbo C7 running the quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds at 144 mph – what a rush that must’ve been!
For the record-setting run in their 831 hp monster of a C7, LMR has replaced the factory torque converter with a Circle D torque converter – the gearing is still the same as the 10.2 second run. The jump from 10.2 to 9.9 seconds in the quarter may not seem huge to the average gearhead, but for a drag racer, even a tenth of a second makes a world of difference.
Maybe in another couple of weeks LMR will swap out a couple of components for more lightweight components to reduce rotational mass and unsprung weight to obtain a faster time, possibly closer to mid or low nines, if that’s what they’re going for. We sure hope it is, because we like to see improvement in steps – if a bunch of components are changed all at once, it’s hard to tell what really made a difference.
Props to the crew over at LMR for continuing to set the C7 bar high, we can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us in the future!
