Residents of San Antonio, Texas perked up in their car seats to the sounds of screeching tires and snapping body panels earlier this week. That’s because a rather intense collision occurred in the city on Sunday, involving a red C7 and a white Mustang.
The story goes that the Corvette driver had started everything behind the wheel of a truck in Kendall County, where he had started a house fire. He later abandoned the truck and stole the Vette at gunpoint. This kicked off a police pursuit that stretched several miles over Medina and Bandera county, the latter of which includes San Antonio.
The chase, which reached speeds in excess of 130 mph, ended at the corner of Timber Path and Grissom in San Antonio. The suspect smashed into the rear end of Tema Garcia’s Mustang, but that wasn’t the end of it.
A fire started up from the Stingray quickly, according to witnesses. “I saw smoke all around the car, and a guy comes out and he’s telling me to get out because the car is on fire, so I escaped out the passenger side,” Garcia said.
The twentysomething suspect took off on foot behind a nearby fast food restaurant and on into a creek. He made it up until about 20 minutes later when he was arrested and taken into custody by the police. A search of the scene found two firearms in the back of the Corvette, but it’s unclear if they belonged to the suspect or the C7’s actual owner.
That about sums up what went down on Sunday. It’s a fairly unusual set of events to wind up with a burnt house, Corvette, and a stash of guns; what are your thoughts on the situation?
