Coming this Friday, the very first production C7 Grand Sport will cross the block at the Palm Beach Barrett-Jackson auction as Lot #3003, marking the 2017 Grand Sport’s inaugral introduction into the market. But not only is the car the first off the line, it also bears the magnificent Collector’s Edition trim – complete with exclusive Watkins Glen Gray Metallic exterior, Tension Blue hash-marks and interior trim and the Z07 package performance package.
What’s more, every last cent of the hammer price will benefit the Karmanos Cancer Institute in mid-town Detroit.
The institute is dedicated to both research and the ongoing battle against cancer – with facilities for prevention, detection, treatment and ultimate eradication. The Grand Sport’s bid price will benefit to the institute and roughly 12,000 new patients every year.
How much that bid price will be, however, is entirely unknown – Barrett-Jackson hasn’t announced the reserve price. And with no Grand Sport pricing laid out from GM, there’s nothing solid to speculate on.
In fact, there still hasn’t been any word as to when the car will be released and start hitting dealerships, either. That being said, whoever wins this VIN #001 car could be cruising around in the only 2017 Grand Sport for quite some time. On the other hand, the auction of this first Grand Sport could be the pre-cursor to the official retail release of the car – meaning we’ll get to see them in the wild.
Of course, this is nothing but speculation, which is all any of us can do at this point. So we’ll wait until Friday to see what lucky son-of-a-gun gets to claim the very first 2017 Grand Sport, and hope that the rest of them hit the road soon.
