The crew at Burns Stainless have dialed in exhaust sound in high performance exhaust systems. Reducing sound at racetracks has become a greater priority as residential homes have crept closer and closer to every existing racetrack in the world. We’ve all seen or heard the horror stories of tracks threatened with closure due to environmental sound issues. Burns Stainless, partnering with many race teams over the years, has worked to control sound levels without losing performance or getting black flagged for noise violations.

The Burns Stainless test car was equipped with Burns’ NhB exhaust system and compared to an identically prepped C6 with a different exhaust for environmental sound.

Targeting the frequencies that are more likely to cause a problem, the Burns team is able to pick out the sounds that the human ear is most likely to hear, and effectively reduce those levels to acceptable environmental scales. At the same time, Burns Stainless applies modern manufacturing technology to improve the exhaust flow with better bends. In most cases, they claim their exhaust systems weigh less than stock or other brands of exhaust systems.

According to the experts at Burns Stainless, this featured video shows an orange C6 Corvette and a white BMW equipped with the Burns NhB exhaust doing sound testing at Thunderhill Raceway Park. A yellow C6 Corvette with a different manufacturer’s exhaust system is also on the track for sound comparison. Both Corvettes are powered by Katech prepared engines keeping everything as even as possible.

The similarly prepared yellow C6 Corvette with Katech power and a different exhaust system provided a baseline test subject for the sound comparison.

The team at Burns Stainless ultimately leave the evaluation of the sound to the consumer, but based on this track comparison, there is a noticeable difference between the two cars. According the Burns crew, the yellow Corvette is running a competitor’s exhaust that weighs almost twice as much as the Burns NhB system. You be the judge.
