Video: Here’s Your Go-To Example Of Why The C6 Z06 Is So Great

The Z06 nameplate has been synonymous with insurmountable performance since it’s introduction in 1963; quite simply, it’s the result of taking the best and making it even better. But when that nameplate was applied to the 6th generation Corvette, it truly reached new heights.

As many would agree, a factory C6 Z06 is a blank slate that owner don’t mind leaving blank. With more than 500 ponies under the hood straight off of the showroom floor, there’s no shortage of grin factor to keep you satisfied.2However, it is a driver’s car after all, and the crowd that the C6 Z06 attracts consists of those who rarely settle for stock. The owner of the lean, clean C6Z in the above OneTake with Matt Farah is a proud member of this crowd.

Admittedly, the LS6 powerplant of the C6 Z06’s predecessor needs some real massaging to make big power numbers (by today’s standards, at least). With the displacement-hoarding LS7 in the C6 Z06, however, this is not so. The stout 505-horsepower starting point – coupled with the user-friendliness of the LS platform – makes it easy to achieve massive power numbers with little more than the good ‘ol fashioned heads-cam-intake treatment.

The LeMans Blue ‘Vette Farah drives in the above OneTake was the recipient of such treatment and, as Farah repeatedly proclaims, it is “… very good.” As with all C6 Z06s, its LS7 started life producing around 450 horsepower to the rear wheels; but – after getting its head, cam, intake and handful of other mods (like aftermarket exhaust and injectors) – it was up to nearly 600 at the tires.

The owner makes clear that his intent was not to go all-out and build the baddest ‘Vette humanly possible, but instead to give it a healthy performance boost while maintaining its ability to drive him to work every day. In a nutshell, the car is a poster-child of the C6 Z06’s bang-for-your-buck potential: unparalleled ownership experience, invulnerable drivability, performance potential without equal – and all for around 35-grand. So, the next time someone asks you what’s so great about the C6 Z06, we recommend you point ’em to this video.3
