Mobil1 The Grid Takes You Behind The Scenes Of Corvette Racing At Laguna Seca

The team at Corvette Racing are coming off of their latest battle for the championship at the America’s Tire 250 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The intense competition and a class that is constantly evolving means that the steps to the podium are seemingly getting smaller and taller.

Coming off of a few dominating years, the team at Corvette racing welcomes the challenge. They know that the reason the “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday” mantra works is because to win, you need to be the best. That takes work in a field that is constantly nipping at your heels, and sometimes, can reverse the roles.

As competition becomes tighter and increasingly more capable, strategy also becomes more important. Every team member’s contribution can make or break the effort when separation times are cut into fractions of a second and knowing WHEN to do something is just as important as knowing IF you should.

In an ever-changing field of uncertainty, pit strategy is one-part plan and the rest determined by exploiting events during the race. Such was the case at this year’s race. Oliver Gavin explains, “The guys did a really great job all weekend and were really solid. We thought we were doing the right thing with the strategy and the pit stops. Sometimes that’s racing and we have to go back and assess.”

The Laguna Seca race is in the books and Corvette Racing grabbed a few steps closer to a championship season with a podium finish, but so did their competitors. All eyes will be on the last dash as Corvette Racing closes the IMSA season on Saturday, October 13 at Road Atlanta’s Petit Le Mans.

Mobil1 The Grid takes you behind the scenes of the race and speaks with #3 and #4 car crew chiefs Dan Binks and Brian Hoye. Drivers Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner, Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia give their take on the race, the track and where they’re headed from here. Check out the video and you’ll see how competitive this class is and why this year is coming to an exciting finale.
