Throwback Thursday: EFI Questions Answered With The Help Of FiTech

Here we are, the end of the week is getting closer. That’s right, Thursday is casting its ever-growing shadow firmly on our garage floor. With the end of the week announcing its arrival, we know you are planning to work on your project this weekend. Maybe your plans have already been made? If your plans for spending some time in your garage include an upgrade to electronic fuel injection, you might want to check this out.

In this edition of Throwback Thursday, we’ve opened the Power Automedia vault, and are taking a short hop back to December 2017, to check out: EFI Questions Answered With The Help Of Ken Farrell at FiTech. This week’s throwback jumps head first into realizing all the aspects of your car that you need to consider besides that bolt-on EFI unit.

FiTech EFI uses an annular discharge to provide fuel, but unlike a carb, it is driven by higher pressure in the fuel line, not by the lower pressure in the intake.

For instance, did you realize the style of intake you use can affect performance – even with fuel injection? In the original article, Ken explains that decision early in the article. Your camshaft duration, overlap, and centerline also play a major role in how well the fuel-squirter system works.

Finally, engine timing is infinitely important with EFI, and the adjustments you are able to make can really help – or hurt – performance. With EFI, you are able to use a more aggressive timing curve than you may be able to with a carburetor, because of the ability to control the air/fuel ratio at varying load and RPM.

The compact, bolt-on unit has very few wires, an internal regulator, and on-board ECU hidden behind the front plate. Many of the necessary sensors are mated directly to the throttle body to keep installation simple.

You’ll have to check out the original article to get the full download, and I thought; EFI Questions Answered With The Help Of Ken Farrell at FiTech would be a great article for this week’s Throwback Thursday.
