Experience the C7 Corvette Stingray at NCM This November

In Bowling Green, Kentucky, there’s 3.15 miles of twisting, turning roadway where dreams come true. This place is the NCM (National Corvette Museum) Motorsports Park, and the dream is driving a C7 Corvette Stingray at speeds approaching 120 miles per hour.

If this sounds like a fantasy come true to you, you should check out what the park — which is across from the National Corvette Museum — has to offer.

The main event at the park is called the Corvette Experience; it features three 20-minute driving sessions and three classroom sessions that will teach you what you need to know to drive the Corvette on the track. You’ll also get lunch and a guided tour of the National Corvette Museum.

In the first classroom, you’ll learn about the features of the 430-horsepower car you’ll be driving, get a rundown of the track and listen to an overview of the basic rules for driving on it. Then, each participant receives a racing helmet and you get to head out onto the course for your first driving session. The sessions take place with a lead car in front, then the participants, then a follow car. You’re instructed to follow the lead car and do exactly as the driver does.

The next two sessions work similarly, but the information you learn in class and the driving you get to do is more advanced. You get to go faster, too.

The experience is open to the public and is also available for private events. As of this writing, the Oct. 19 and Nov. 2 sessions are all booked up, but a session on Nov. 24 still has 16 spots open. The park notes you can call to schedule additional times if none are free on the dates you’re available.

Participating in the Corvette Experience will cost you for $599, mostly for insurance. To participate, you must be 18 years or older, have a valid driver’s license and sign a vehicle damage policy and an indemnity agreement.

The park also has other options for those who want to drive a Corvette on the track but don’t want to go all-out with the full Corvette Experience. For $220, you can drive a Corvette for four laps with a lead and follow car. These sessions are available on weekdays if the track isn’t in use for other purposes. The park website highly recommends calling ahead for reservations.

You can also sign up to be a passenger in a Corvette for two laps around the track at racing speeds. You need to be at least 15 and 4-feet, 6-inches tall to participate, and these sessions are available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays when the course isn’t in use. The cost is $125. Another option involves driving your car around the track with a lead and follow for four laps. In addition to the public events the park hosts, you can also set up private events at the track.

Always wanted to drive a Corvette at racecar speeds? Now’s your chance. The NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green still has spots open for its Corvette Experience. Head to the park’s website to get more details and sign up.
