People sell all sorts of crap stuff on eBay these days, and today’s entry should really come to no surprise to us – even though we did exclaim, “What the —-!?” when we first saw this ad. According to the “seller,” one car dealership is auctioning off the opportunity to order a new Corvette – seriously.
That’s right, Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac of Murfreesboro is offering eBay bidders the chance to bid on special ordering a C7 from their dealership. Evidently, people are lining up for that opportunity, because as of this writing, the bidding is up to almost $48k, plus whatever it would cost the buyer for the car itself.
Just to make things perfectly clear, the “winner” of this auction will get to pay whatever the bid price is, PLUS the MSRP of whatever C7 they actually order, taxes, and fees. Says so right in the auction, plus in the Q&A down below.
At this point we’re actually at a loss for words – because if you’re willing to shell out what’s easily going to be over $100k (total) for a standard C7, and a potentially trouble prone early model at that, then you seriously need your head examined. For that kind of cash, you could buy a leftover 2013 ZR1, a brand new Z06 (with about $30k for modifications), or two standard base C6’s.
Better still, you can save that money, and wait for the C7 Z06 or ZR1 to be released after the bugs are worked out, and have a seventh-generation Corvette really worth bragging about. But what do we know? We’re just starving automotive journalists…
