The Chevrolet Corvette has been a perennial favorite of baby boomers and the nouveau riche for decades. It is a car that says “I have arrived” in the sense that your American Dream has come true, and you’ve awarded yourself with a cool sports car. But as the years go on, maybe you decide it is time to upgrade to a newer, cooler car.
However it happened, somebody eventually gave up this 1978 Chevy Corvette for good, and the new owner decided that while an old Corvette may not be cool, an old Corvette with four-wheel drive is the definition of cool. Now it has come time to part with this unique cruiser, which is why it ended up on the Corpus Christi Craigslist.
Most people probably think it is wrong to take a grand touring car like the ‘78 Corvette and to drop it onto the frame of a 1989 Bronco. But the C3 Corvette was never that beloved, especially the 1970s versions, so if you’re going to chop up a Corvette, it might as well be a late C3 (or even a C4). The Bronco frame was apparently “flipped over” and shortened to fit the C3 body, though the Bronco’s 351 cubic-inch V8 remains.
Alas, this looks and feels like an incomplete project, and it was never intended to be street driven. How much work is left before it is ready for the back roads, the seller does not say, though we think it is safe to assume there is plenty of work left to be done. Are you up to the task of completing this Corvette mudder? Or is this one project better left unfinished?
