Chevrolet Performance Invades Bowling Green For NMCA Shootout

NMCA

We know that everyone has an opinion about Chevrolet’s LS engine, and whether that revolves around a stock bottom-end or a full-boogie race engine, there is no arguing the popularity of this power maker. That’s why there are dedicated race classes for anything LS-powered.

We just received an email telling us about the 12th Annual Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout that is heading to the fabled Beech Bend Raceway. The National Muscle Car Association will bring this, the longest running LS-based national event, to Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky from May 17 through 20, 2018. Not only will there be bragging rights to earn, but, NMCA officials also have more than $50,000 in purse, prizes, and giveaways slated for the second stop on the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series five-event tour. The LSX Shootout is run as part of the Quick Fuel Technology NMCA Blue Grass Nationals, and the event is presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center.

Get to the event on Thursday, and you will enjoy an exclusive LSX-Shootout Racer Appreciation Dinner with a free parts raffle with over $10,000 in giveaways. Call it a warm up before the on-track and car show action begins on Friday. Which by the way, will have even more prizes and race purses up for grabs. This action-packed event includes six Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series categories to showcase the best that Chevy and General Motors has to offer under the hood of a wide-variety of street and race cars.

If you enjoy fast-paced action with wild wheelstands, big turbos, superchargers, and nitrous-injected small-tire gladiators, then the Brian Tooley Racing Real Street Shootout is exactly what you need. You will witness cars racing into the 4-second zone in the 1/8-mile competition. The popular Late Model Engines Street King and Proform Rumble index-categories are staples in the LSX Shootout. Of course, the Chevrolet Performance Stock, heads-up class with sealed crate engines gives fans high-flying fun. Our friends in the performance division of the Bow Tie will be giving LSX blocks to the class winners in Real Street, Street Rumble, Street King, and CP Stock.

Maybe you’re more of a street car fan? If that’s the case, there are two awesome opportunities to have fun at the LSX Shootout. First is the Gear Vendors LSX True Street class that calls for competitors to drive 30-miles and perform a trio of passes, of which an average e.t. is calculated, and the field is ranked on that average. Winners that are declared and paid include the Overall Winner, Overall Runner-Up, and quickest averages in the 9-, 10-, 11-, 12-, 13-, 14-, and 15-second zones. In addition to the top prize, the overall winner will receive a Chevrolet Performance LSX engine block valued at more than $3,150!

The second street car class is dubbed the Chevrolet Performance Street Car Challenge, which by the way, is free to enter for the first 75 enthusiasts that pre-enter the LSX Shootout. The class offers a casual atmosphere where enthusiasts can hang out at the Chevrolet Performance Street Car Challenge Pavilion and legally drag race their LS- or modern LT-powered vehicles. Cash prizes are given out to average e.t. winners in the 9-, 10-, 11-, 12-, 13-, 14-, and 15-second zones, along with an Overall Winner and Overall Runner-Up.

The LSX Shootout is a longstanding tradition in the modern small-block street and race scene, and the 2018 event is even bigger and more fun, thanks to Chevrolet Performance and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center. In addition to the LSX Shootout, the NMCA Bluegrass Nationals goes down the same weekend of May 17 through 20, 2018 with 4,500hp VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod door-slammers, Mickey Thompson Radial Wars, Nostalgia Super Stock, and the Dave Duell Classic shootout. You will also find other awesome happenings like an all-American car show and manufacturer’s midway. Combined, the event offers over $125,000 in purse, prizes, and giveaways to celebrate muscle cars and modern horsepower.
