2019 Corvette Grand Sport Paces Indy 500 For 16th Time

No other brand or vehicle has served as the Indianapolis 500 pace car than Chevrolet and the Corvette. When each of those 33 drivers cross the starting line on May 26, 2019, they will again, all be staring at a Bowtie in the lead. This time, it is affixed to the rear bumper of a 2019 Corvette Grand Sport, wearing the official Indy 500 Pace Car badging over Long Beach Red Metallic Tintcoat with full-length Blade Silver dual racing stripes.

The 2019 Corvette Grand Sport will serve as the Official Pace Car for the 2019 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, leading 33 drivers to the green flag on May 26 for the 103rd running of the legendary race.

There will also be 33 similarly-colored Chevrolet Corvette Stingrays being used as festival cars, to carry each of those drivers during the Festival Parade on May 25th. This is the first time since 2007 that matching Corvettes will be serving as the Indy 500 Pace Car and as festival cars. This is the 16th time that Corvette has served as the Pace Car, a history that started in 1978 with the fervor that surrounded those black and silver sharks. This year also marks the 30th time that a Chevrolet has enjoyed the front position on the pace lap.

The race will be televised live on NBC for the first time, with the pre-race show starting at 11 a.m. EDT on May 26. Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio will provide live coverage of the race to its affiliates and on Sirius 216, XM 209, indycar.com, indycarradio.com and the INDYCAR Mobile app powered by NTT DATA. Enthusiasts can Visit IMS.com to purchase tickets for the 103rd Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 26 and for more information on the complete month of May schedule at IMS.
