SEMA 2016: Scoggin-Dickey’s New 416 and 427 CI LT1 Short-Blocks

When it comes to building high horsepower engines and components, Scoggin-Dickey has been at it longer than most and offer an array of go-fast goodies. But this year, at SEMA 2016, they aren’t just resting on their laurels. They have taken their parts into the next generation—Gen V that is.IMG_7864

New for 2017, Scoggin-Dickey will now offer built LT1 and LT4 short-blocks packed to the gills with high strength components. Starting with your choice of a 416 ci or 427 ci blue print and a new GM OE block, in dry- or wet-sump configuration, the stroker is then stuffed with premium components. The 427 requires sleaving to reach the requisite bore size of 4.125 inches necessary for the build.

“One of our greatest strengths is our part acquisition capabilities,” said Keith Wilson of Scoggin-Dickey. “We then package them together in great combinations, like the 416s or 427s here, and make them available to customers. All that means is that in 2017, we can offer customers complete engines, long-blocks, or short-block in virtually any combination they desire.”

Each Gen V Scoggin-Dickey engine is stuffed with a forged crank, H-beam rods, and pistons—the brands of which are up to you. Clevite “H” series rod and main bearings are used on the bottom end and standard GM cam bearings are used for the bumpstick. All short-blocks are available in configurations for nitrous, boost, or naturally aspirated—depending on your needs.

Naturally, the variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management have been sacrificed in the name of performance. Scoggin-Dickey’s new billet aluminum front cover moves the camshaft position sensor to a more appropriate location after the mill has been relieved its cam phaser and a Katech valley plate blocks of the oil galleys of the AFM.

But things don’t stop at the short-block. CNC-ported cylinder heads are a new addition to Dickey’s Gen V repertoire and are available on the aforementioned LT1/LT4 short-blocks.

“We can do the heads with really any type of valve and spring you want, within reason,” said Wilson. “All the parts we offer have the ability to be custom-tailored to the needs of the customer.”

Not only will Scoggin-Dickey build you anything your heart desires, they’ll do it for a lot less than you might think. The 416 and 427 short-blocks start out at just $5,295 and $7,395 respectively—a bargain for sure. And they didn’t forget about the top end either. A 102 and 103 mm throttle body, with heavy-duty electronics, will be offered for the LT1/LT4 in 2017 as well.
