Crank Up The Boost: LSX 376 ProCharged C6 Corvette Project Overview

In our opinion, the C6 Corvette is one of the best cars to own and upgrade. You can’t go wrong with 400 horsepower and 30 miles per gallon in completely stock form. The C6 steps up the interior over the previous C5, makes more power, and there is extensive aftermarket support. One of the great things about the C6 is that, at this point, many people can afford to buy them. The C6 coupled with the six-speed transmission means it turns just 1,800 RPM at 80 mph, but is still capable of killer 60-foot times. Seriously, what more could you want from a car, besides a back seat?

We purchased our C6 for $14,000, including full bolt-on’s, which seems like a steal to us. The ‘Vette came equipped with much bigger Z06 brakes, 2012 Grand Sport quarter panels, and had less than 90,000 miles on the clock. But, as you know, we can’t leave anything alone and felt the need to modify the Corvette. The idea behind this build is to create a real 750-plus rear-wheel-horsepower street car that is dependable and can be driven anywhere at a moments notice.

To hit our mark, it’s going to take some planning and some serious components to make this daily driver accomplish our goals while remaining reliable. Our first order of business is to yank the factory LS2 engine out, and while we could rebuild it, we decided to swap in an LSX 376 instead. The LSX 376-B15 is an enduring crate motor from Chevrolet Performance, and its all-forged rotating assembly supports up to 15-pounds of boost, which makes it an excellent and relatively affordable engine for supercharged and turbocharged combinations.

Speaking of boost: we will be using a ProCharger on this engine as well to hit our goal. Our C6 is going to be powered by a ProCharger C6 Corvette Tuner Kit, including a by D-1SC head unit alongside the Stage II intercooler. The D-1SC is capable of 925 horsepower, which will put us right in the range we are looking for at the wheels. The ProCharger system includes an eight-rib belt system, intercooler, brackets, belts, aluminum tubing, and an air cleaner. ProCharger also supplied us with an extra pulley in case we need to spin the blower a little faster for more boost.

Innovators West offers an LSX harmonic balancer designed explicitly for the Corvette with a supercharger. The unit is SFI 18.1 approved and features an eight-rib drive with a standard diameter pulley and 3/16-inch keyway for use with aftermarket cranks. Although this damper is designed with eight-rib grooves, it may be used with the stock six-rib accessory drive with no issues. The unit uses a lightweight billet aluminum cover that houses a free-floating wet friction clutch pack assembly. A spring-loaded inertia ring dampens crankshaft harmonics over a wide RPM range and provides exceptional dampening for your street or racecar.

To fuel the ProCharged LSX 376, we will be using an Aeromotive Stealth Eliminator Street Fuel System. This unit is rated for EFI engines producing up to 1,400 flywheel horsepower with forced Induction and 1,900 flywheel horsepower on a naturally-aspirated combination. This Corvette Stealth Fuel System includes the Aeromotive Stealth Eliminator fuel pump, designed to fit inside the stock Corvette tank, which integrates with the stock fuel-level sending unit and jet-siphon transfer pump. This package also provides all the necessary fuel system parts, including the Stealth in-tank fuel Pump, 40-micron high flow filter, one piece CNC Y-block, billet high-flow fuel rails, billet EFI pressure regulator, and all necessary Aeromotive high-flow ORB port fittings. A fuel pump speed controller is included and designed to keep fuel cool in cars that will see extended street driving but still need full pump performance for racing purposes.

For the fuel injectors, we called the experts at the Fuel Injector Clinic (FIC) for a set of their precision matched high-impedance injectors. A lifetime warranty backs these high-performance units and provides some of the best performance and reliability in the industry. FIC uses the latest injector technology and features state of the art matching with Data Match Technology. This technology will make the tuning process a lot easier when compared to some of the other brands on the market, meaning less time on the dyno and more money in your pocket.

To top off the engine, we’re using the FAST LSXR intake manifold with a massive 102mm throttle body. This setup will pick up 14-plus horsepower and 11-plus ft-lbs of torque at the flywheel when swapped with the stock intake manifold. The three-piece design makes for easy disassembly and makes porting the intake a super easy job. It also offers adjustable runners, which allow you to fine-tune the intake to your specific combination.

We’re betting that this C6 is going to be the perfect street car when we are done. With some of the best names in performance used in this build, we expect to see significant reliable power. Stay tuned to see this impressive build come to life.
