Video: Watch A Billet Specialties Street Lite Wheel Come To Life!

Our friends over at Billet Specialties are well known throughout the performance industry for building incredible pieces of automotive jewelry, and this video showing off the techniques of their wheel manufacturing division is a glimpse into manufacturing precision.

If you’re anything like us, with a “How It’s Made” fascination, this video will strike your fancy. The Street Lite wheel is one of Billet Specialties’ most popular pieces, and their 17×4.5-inch front wheel fits perfectly on so many of today’s late-model, big-brake hotrods that are starting to find the track on a regular basis.

bsThe Street Lite wheel is designed to be the ultimate street-strip wheel. It’s ultra-light at only 14.5 pounds and is constructed from a single piece of rotary-forged billet. The Street Lite available in sizes from the 17×4.5-inch shown in the video, all the way up to to 17×11-inch to round out the rear of of your favorite muscle car. The larger sizes have a rotary-forged center structure and traditional rim shell, and the wheel design is available in both a fully-polished finish and with a black-anodized center.

Through the magic of time-lapse video, it takes only 30 seconds from start to finish to go from a blank billet to a completely-finished, ready-to-be-polished piece. In real time we’d guess this process to be more along the lines of half an hour, and if we were in the factory we’d be mesmerized by the process.

The wonder of CNC machinery is one that we’ve always found fascinating, and “makin’ chips” is a byproduct of the manufacturing process. The Billet Specialties team seems to have it down to a science. Check it out!
