Tech Review: Edelbrock’s C6 E-Force Supercharger Kit

When it comes to adding loads of power to just about any engine out there, few upgrades go farther than a supercharger package. Edelbrock understands this, and has released a new E-Force Supercharger Package for the 2008 – 2010 LS3 powered Corvettes. But before you think this is just a blower with a couple of brackets to hold it on, sit down and pay attention. Edelbrock is proud of all the engineering they did in the development of this kit, and now you can see and experience it for yourself. These kits are just about ready to be shipped and installed to boost the base Corvette to near ZR1 performance.

Edelbrock will be launching this kit in three different flavors to meet the needs of anyone looking to pack more punch into the stock LS3’s 6.2 L. The first two kits are designed for use out on the street, while the third is a competition package. No matter which one ends up on your ride, you end up will a quality system that is designed to fit the Corvette, not just the LS3. “I feel it’s very important to recognize the engineering details – things that can be easily overlooked.” says Jason Snyder, VP of Marketing for Edelbrock. “Edelbrock kits are of such a high quality, the uneducated consumer may think the E-Force was installed on the assembly line at GM.” Snyder filled us in on what all went into the design of this kit.

The goal from day one in the design of this kit was to create a powerful package that would require the least amount of fabrication to install. After all, when you just spent $50,000+ on a car, the last thing you want to do is cut it up. Edelbrock understands this, which is why the E-Force Supercharger is designed to install under the stock hood. Time was spend to ensure that the under hood remained as attractive, if not more than, the way the car comes from the factory. Countless hours testing were spent on this system for durability and performance on engine dynos, chassis dynos and out on the street. All driven to insure the quality of the kit. To back that up, Edelbrock offers an optional 5 year, 100,000 mile supplemental warranty.

The Heart of The System: Eaton TVS & Edelbrock Manifold

Edelbrock’s E-Force uses the 2.3 L Eaton TVS Rotors for the base of the system. The 4-lobe design has 160° of rotation to improve volumetric and thermal efficiency. This means that the supercharger will make more power, with less demand from the engine, while producing less heat. It also is one of the quietest systems on the market today.

To give it a clean home in the Corvette, Edelbrock designed their own unique manifold that inverts the supercharger. This design uses runners that seem to go on forever, measuring in at 12 inches long, that lets the low end grunt of the supercharger to really shine. It also integrates a front drive and front inlet design. Edelbrock felt that using a jackshaft would only leads to issues with belt alignment and wear, while the front inlet is the quickest and most efficient path for air to enter the supercharger.

Another neat trick Edelbrock was able to integrate into the manifold was an air-by-pass valve between the inlet and outlet plenums of the supercharger. Under normal driving, this valve is open: increasing fuel mileage and proving smooth operation for everyday use, but when you step on it, the valve closes and the engine is feed the full boost of the supercharger for maximum power.

The Kit: What’s Included

As mentioned this kit is specific to the Corvette, not just the LS3. “The Corvette and Camaro share the same LS3 engine. But our E-Force superchargers are different between the two. The Camaro and Corvette have a different inlet on the supercharger to optimize efficiency of the inlet air flow,” says Snyder, “This entailed an investment in new tooling for a part that could have been simply done with a rudimentary silicone elbow. But we chose to do it right to maintain our design integrity and quality standards.” It also means that everything you need to install the kit is included. Every bolt, every hose, even all the wiring harness, fuel injectors and a flash tuner is included.

Level One Street Kit PN:1590

The Level One kit is the base E-Force Supercharger kit from Edelbrock. This package bumps the power level on the LS3 to 554 HP and 515 TQ using the stock fuel pump. Here is the full run down on what’s included.

Level Two Street Kit PN: 1591

The Level Two kit uses many of the same components as the Level One, but swaps out the supercharger pulley for a smaller one to increase power to 599 HP and 547 TQ. While the system still uses the same 52 lb/hr fuel injectors, the fuel pump must be replaced to keep up with the increased demand. Edelbrock includes a high volume, in tank fuel pump to handle the job of moving the right amount of fuel needed.

Competition Kit PN: 1592

For those looking to use this kit out on the track, Edelbrock has a paired down version of their E-Force package that includes the basics of their proven street system, but leaves the door open for necessary customization that building a racecar involves. Things such as the serpentine belt, fuel injectors and engine covers are all left out. Leaving you with a still precision designed supercharger package that is ready for integration to your existing set up.
