The UK Top Gear guys are up to their old tricks again. As droll and witty as ever, they’ve bestowed “Muscle Car of the Year,” upon the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Although certainly muscular (but not technically a muscle car) the Corvette always inspires awe and unfortunately confusion among overseas auto scribes who should know better.

Englishmen are always a hoot with their observations of America. Usually humorous but somewhat dated and mostly derived from old U.S. TV shows and movies. Always good with a pun, controversy follows the Top Gear bunch too. For example, the author likened the state of Tennessee to “Deliverance” country. Pretty hilarious coming from a bunch of folks who’s dental health is about the same as those folks up there in the Smokey Mountains.

At any rate, check out the nasty, manual gearbox Z06 Coupe they wring out at Road Atlanta. They compare it with big dollar Ferraris and can’t believe how great the Vette is, even though the transformation to global superstar began almost twenty years ago with the C5 back in ’97.

It’s like they boot up a Word template with the title “Is the new 20XX Corvette really a sports car?” Or, “Is the Vette as good as Europe’s Best? This time, it’s apparently “Muscle Car of The Year.” Hopefully the C7 will encourage them to trash those dusty old template files and get with the 21st century.

Expired narratives aside, they love the new Vette. Even old curmudgeon Jeremy Clarkson nominated the Z06 as his personal Car of The Year. He liked the C6 too, bestowing such backhanded praise as “Kudos to Billy Bob and Buck” down in Kentucky for a job well done.

Surprising smack coming from a bloke whose country’s auto industry was so crappy, it’s now entirely foreign owned.
