You Can Drive the C7 Corvette Now – You Just Can’t Really See It

The amazing buildup to the promised 1/13/13 reveal of the 2014 C7 Corvette [1] at the Detroit Auto Show continues – last week, the camo’ed C7 test mule turned up in “screen saver” shots [2] of the Playstation 3 game Gran Turismo 5, and today Sony and GM released an update through the Playstation Store that allows GT5 players to download and drive the still-camouflaged next gen Corvette.

“Until now, only the most skilled drivers on the Corvette team have been authorized to push the test prototypes to the limits on some of the most challenging track surfaces in the world,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Global Marketing.  “Through this unique collaboration with Gran Turismo, Chevrolet is able, for the first time, to give performance car enthusiasts access to such an exclusive driving experience.”

Chevrolet and Polyphony Digital Inc., the software house behind the Gran Turismo series, say that the digital C7 is a faithful representation of what the actual car is like from behind the wheel. Players will get to experience the new Corvette at legendary tracks like Daytona and the Nurburgring – fitting, since the Nordschlief track in Nurburg, Germany is one of the places crucial to late model Corvette chassis development efforts.

PS3 owners with GT5 just have to visit the Playstation Store on their console in order to grab the free download – you know what we’ll be doing tonight right after work!
