Biologists can shout and yell until they’re blue in the face, but after getting a good look at this mangled C6, we’re all but certain that the African elephant (thanks, Wikipedia) is not the largest living land mammal on earth. An elephant could really do a number on any Corvette, but the creature we’re thinking of seems to have done the damage to this unfortunate car in one fell swoop; i.e., one step with its foot.
Somewhat flattened and looking the worse for wear, this 2008 coupe looks like it got in the way of King Kong. Needless to say, it got crushed and left its owner without a ride back to his Upper West Side apartment.
In all seriousness though, this Vette makes for the perfect subject for this week’s entry of Wrecked Vette Wednesday (WVW). Much of the fiberglass body has been torn off and piled on top of the cabin, including the rear fascia. The front was impacted so hard that it flexed the frame upwards, and we can barely make out bits and pieces of the engine.
Interestingly, in spite of this massive thrashing the Corvette received, the airbags for both the driver and passenger are still intact. One possible scenario for this was that the car was being transported on a tractor-trailer, fell off for one reason or another, and proceeded to undergo a beating from the median, asphalt, other cars, and finally some trees and rocks on the side of the freeway.
Fixed up and looking pretty, the C6 is valued at $31,384 by Progressive Insurance and can be found on Insurance Auto Auctions (IAA). Any takers?
