Just in time for the arrival of C7 Stingrays [3] at local dealerships, older Corvettes are taking themselves out in force. Of course we know it’s not the cars’ fault, but it seems ironic in the timing. This time, the Corvette wreck happened in New Jersey, according to Corvette Blogger [4] and NorthJersey.com [2], where a 57-year-old man crashed his C5 into a tree as he was apparently going about his commute. At this rate, C5s may become rare collectors’ items sooner than we think!

The crash happened on Route 23 near the Kinnelon border last Thursday morning at 5:42 a.m. The driver, Anthony Venturella, was believed to be on his way to work when the car left a south-bound lane before crashing into a tree in the median.

Anthony was seriously injured in the crash and had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was then taken to the Kinnelon High School landing zone where he was airlifted to Saint Joseph’s Trauma and Medical Center in Paterson.

As for the Corvette, it too was left in serious condition after the wreck. Not only was the car body peeled away on the driver’s side to release Venturella from its confines, the vehicle also lost its passenger door body panel and received severe damage to its front end and hood.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time by the West Milford Police Crash Investigation Unit. Anyone who was traveling on that section of highway on Thursday morning just before 6 a.m. is asked to call (973) 728-2802 to report anything they saw related to the accident.
