In real estate, the three most important factors in what a particular piece of property is worth are, “location, location, location,” or so the cliche goes. Having a home adjacent to a quiet creek set among beautiful trees sounds like a dream – something many people would gladly pay for to escape urban life. Unfortunately, being close to nature means that when nature goes out of control, you’re in jeopardy.
That’s exactly what happened in the Hudson Valley, New York community of Livingston Manor when heavy rain caused Cattail creek to swell beyond its normal confines on September 18th, 2012 and undermine the foundations of several houses and buildings, including Ted Baer’s garage. In addition to the structural damage, his 1991 C4 Corvette parked inside was swept away downstream, and the videos shown here display Prestige Towing’s efforts to recover what was left of the Chevy.

We’re going to go out on a limb here and say this car is a total loss; between the damage done by water, rocks, and logs, and the horrible crunching sounds as the poor Corvette is pulled from the still-flooded stream, it’s unlikely there’s much left undamaged. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or deaths as a result of the flooding that we could locate, so in the big picture, things could have been far worse.
