With great power comes great responsibility, as the ol’ Spiderman cliche goes. And as we’re all too aware, that simple saying isn’t always heeded by those behind the wheel of powerful vehicles. All too often we’re subjected to images of wrecked and ruined cars whose drivers, in a momentary lapse of judgement, performed some boneheaded move with predictable results.

Yet the reality of the world is that no matter how calm, respectful, and aware we remain, sometimes fate just decides to hit you where it hurts. That appears to be the case with this wrecked red Corvette C7 on display at WreckedExotics, which was the unfortunate recipient of massive rear end damage. Details are scarce but the damage is all too real, and it hurts that much more knowing that the driver of this brand new ‘Vette almost certainly shares none of the blame.

This accident reportedly comes from the world’s third most populous urban center, Mexico City, where roads are rarely well-kept and up until recently, most taxi drivers still tutted around in old Volkswagen Beetles (seriously). Whatever rear ended this Race Red Corvette Stingray was much bigger and stronger than a Beetle though, absolutely demolishing everything behind the rear wheel and pushing the back bodywork up and over the hatch.

It’s an ugly scene for a car that starts at $60,000 here in the U.S., and more likely than not this unfortunate Corvette is a total loss. It’s one thing to see a beautiful car wrecked by an arrogant owner, but in a situation like this, we can’t help but feel bad for the buyer of this once-beautiful car. Fate can be a fickle mistress, and an average day can turn into a terrible one without notice.

The lesson here? Appreciate each and every moment, no matter how dull it may seem.
