An 18-year-old Florida driver sent three people to the hospital when he failed to stop in traffic. Samuel Weldon, 18, of Redington Beach, Florida was likely not paying attention to traffic when he slammed in a 2009 C6 Corvette. Unfortunately, Weldon’s Honda Pilot slammed into the Corvette with such force that it collided with a Mitsubishi SUV.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the drivers of the other vehicles sustained injuries requiring them to be transported various local hospitals. Dionisios S. Konstantatos, the 65-year-old driver of the C6, sustained critical injuries and was hastily taken to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment. Meanwhile the teenage driver and passenger in the Mitsubishi were taken to All Children’s Hospital with minor injuries caused by the crash; Weldon did not sustain injuries from the collision.
While the C6 looks to be somewhat intact, it is likely to have sustained some serious damage that may result in the vehicle being considered a total loss. It is hard to imagine how Konstantatos will react to the damage to his Corvette, but he is likely to be grateful just to be alive. Perhaps if the once pristine C6 is considered totaled, Konstantatos will end up waiting for the C7’s to hit the market or just opt to replace his C6 with a newer model year.
It is always hard to hear about the destruction of Corvette due to negligent drivers, but fortunately no one killed. At this point the Florida Highway Patrol has yet to press charges, but once the investigation is completed things may change. Let’s hope that Konstantatos, the other driver, and passenger experience speedy recoveries, and that by some miracle the C6 is not a total loss.
