Wrecked Vette Wednesday: “Call to Schedule Your Test Drive Today!”

Type “Corvette” into the YouTube search box and filter by “most recent” and you’ll see a slew of video ads from dealerships peddling both new and used Y-bodies. It’s so common that most of the places that do it have it down to an assembly line process – take some stills, drop it into the video template, cut a line or two of boilerplate voiceover to call out the year, make and model, and post it live.

Engine fires suck.

Most of the time that works just fine, but in this particular video from AutoWorks Inc. in Madison, Wisconsin, the fact that the Corvette they’re trying to sell is a burned-out wreck makes it a comically bad fit for the template.

About 14 seconds in, we get to the point where the mileage would be in the on-screen titles, but since the dashboard is a charred mess, all we see is “This vehicle has just over” and then a blank space where the number should be.

You might want to wear your shop clothes for that test drive.

You might want to wear clothes you don’t care about for that test drive.

The best part, though, is halfway through the slide show where the graphics encourage you to “call to schedule your test drive.” Good luck with that one, and bring your own steering wheel since the original one melted.

The really sad part here is that this Z06 looks like it had some tasteful mods, like long tube headers. It probably should have had a fire extinguisher instead.

Somewhere out there, there’s a buyer for this burned-out Z06 – at the right price of course. But whoever put together this video over at AutoWorks Inc. definitely wasn’t thinking it through when they set out to find that buyer via their standard YouTube boilerplate.
