A Mississippi man will be shopping for new clothes and a new Corvette after he dunked both in several feet of muddy water last week. Thankfully, only the driver’s pride and his bank account were hurt in the incident, as he was able to walk (or swim) away from the accident.

A police photo shows the half-submerged C5 Corvette convertible in the ditch where it landed after the driver lost control in a curve. Pearl Police Captain Tim Sarrett stated that, “he was driving way too fast… the vehicle was totaled.” Captain Sarrett also noted that although the driver was lucky to escape the accident without injuries, “he got wet.”

A look at the Wrecked Vette Wednesday archives [2] shows that of the many ways a Corvette can get written off, encounters with bodies of water are at the very top of the list – they’ve been driven into bayous [3], carried off [4] by flash floods [5], and even rammed into barges [6]. Unfortunately, there are a lot of places in this world where drivers in over their heads behind the wheel of a high performance car car subsequently find themselves literally in over their heads.

An optimist might say that the world has lost a Corvette but gained an LS1-powered project car. After all, any other car would be headed for the crusher right about now, but a totaled Corvette never goes to waste!
