Will the C7 Z06 Finally Put the SRT Viper to Rest?

[1]In a recent article [2] posted on Jalopnik [3], an interesting idea was brought up regarding what the future has in store for the SRT Viper now that the 2015 Z06 is coming to market.

The SRT Viper makes its presence known but has yet to have a break-out month of sales.

For years, diehard enthusiasts have passionately been either Viper fans or Corvette fans in the battle of who will reign supreme as North America’s strongest performance car. While most car enthusiasts can respect what both cars have to offer, there has been a pretty clear divide between diehard fans of either vehicle. As of late, the Viper has been the more powerful option and has had a reputation of having razor sharp handling that will bite you (pun intended) if pushed too far.

They say that competition brings out the best in people and while GM could have just hid themselves from the SRT Viper, they chose to face it head-on with the 2015 Z06 that offers 10 more horsepower and an extra 50 lb-ft of torque in a package that should sell for roughly $30,000 less. Even though current pricing and zero-60 specs are not available for the 2015 Z06, if you use the base Corvette Stingray’s zero-60 time of 3.8 seconds and add nearly 200 hp on top of that, its easy to assume the 2015 Z06 should be able to beat the SRT Viper’s zero-60 time of 3.4 seconds.

With the SRT Viper’s starting price at an eye-opening $102,000 and sales figures that have been underwhelming to say the least, it really makes you appreciate how well received and sought after the $60,000 Corvette Stingray has been with demand that far outweighs supply.

Is the American performance car marketplace big enough for both the SRT Viper and the 2015 Z06 or will one of the two force the other into early retirement? Let us know what you think in the comment section below!
