Welcome PerTronix Performance Products To The Power Automedia Family

PerTronix Performance Products was originally founded in 1962 under the name Per-Lux, and manufactured driving lights, mostly for the heavy-duty truck marketplace. One of their engineers brainstormed the idea of replacing the points and condenser in traditional ignition systems with a full-modern electronic ignition, and the Ignitor product started to take shape.

The initial design found its way into the industrial engine and forklift markets. But over time it was adapted by some enterprising automotive enthusiasts to the performance market and the company eventually developed complete electronic distributors by the mid-80′s.

Eventually the ignition division was spun off and purchased by Per-Lux’s CFO, Tom Reh, who changed the name to PerTronix and committed completely to the automotive marketplace. Over the years they have continued to innovate and develop new ignition products, including spark plug wires, complete Flame-Thrower HEI distributors, along with ignition modules, coils, and even cap-and-rotor combinations.

Today, their full line of parts includes their DigitalREVLimiter and Second Strike ignition boxes, a number of different Flame-Thrower coils that are optimized by application, and even coil-on-plug designs for two-, three-, and four-valve Ford vehicles.

We took a look through their extensive catalog, which is available for free on their website (you’ll need Adobe PDF reader to view it) and were astonished at the sheer number of applications their products cover. Everything from a billet IgnitorII billet distributor, that features a multiple-spark design for your AMC 401 to a Flame-Thrower unit for the 2.0L Alfa Romeo that’s slowly rusting away in your garage – they’ve got it all. Check them out if you’re in the market for new ignition products – they might just be able to wake up your hot-rod. We welcome Pertronix to the Power Automedia family!
