Video: Watch This Pfadt-Sponsored C5 Corvette Chase Down a C6 ZR1

We all know that the C6 ZR1 Corvette is the king of all Vette models as far as stock performance goes. However, this video we found on Pfadt Race Engineering’s Facebook page proves that just a few modifications to a C5 Corvette and some high-performance driver training can really make a difference when chasing down the potent factory ZR1. Caught by a GoPro camera at the National Auto Sport Association (NASA)’s Hunka Hunka Burnin’ Rubber July 2011 event at Memphis International Raceway, check out this Pfadt-sponsored C5 track car put some moves on a ZR1.

Owned by Bret Butler of Jackson, Tennessee, the 2002 Z06 is a NASA Time Trial TTA class car. The Corvette features a custom air intake, an ATI balancer and a Borla Stinger exhaust. Currently, the suspension on the car is completely stock but stopping power has been amplified with Napa Ultra High Performance rotors and Carbotech brake pads. The Corvette is also fitted with a Corbeau seat with a G-Force 5-point harness, a B&M ripper shifter and Nitto NT-01 tires.

The most important modification, however, is Butler’s driver training. In addition to his natural feel for his Corvette and participation in area autocross events, Butler has received a NASA High Performance drivers education and is currently a certified NASA driving instructor. Because of his training, Butler knows exactly how to handle his car no matter what obstacle is in front of him.

While the C6 ZR1 certainly has more horsepower than Butler’s C5, it is Butler’s training that allows him to reel in the ZR1 in the corners. That’s an impressive feat with no suspension modifications what so ever. Although Butler is sponsored by Pfadt, he has not put their sway bars on the car due to the class he competes in. He does, however, wear the Pfadt Race Engineering banner proudly on his car.

Check out Butler’s impressive driving skills in the video above. They will certainly have you second guessing whether your money should be spent on performance modifications or on some good driver training.
