Two things Europe doesn’t exactly have in abundance are Corvettes and drag strips. While, with enough money and persistence, individuals can do something about the former by importing cars from the ‘States, it’s pretty hard for anyone to just up and construct a purpose-built dragstrip on the Continent. As a result, most straight-line competitions are held at places like disused NATO or Soviet Bloc airfields, which offer generous runoff room but very little traction.
So what do you do if you have a Corvette, want to go drag racing, but have to deal with weeds growing through the cracks instead of a nice, sticky layer of rubber and traction compound? If you are the guys at VTG [3] in Poland, you take your C3 body and drop it over a solid-rearend truck frame with the front clip from a GMC Syclone/Typhoon [4] grafted on, and make it permanent all-wheel-drive.
Of course, it goes without saying that the VTG guys are out of their freakin’ minds, and after winning multiple “King of Europe” titles with the 8-second Corvette since the build was completed in 2006, they thought it might be fun to do a little drifting.
That’s what we see here – 1,500 turbocharged and nitroused horsepower boiling the Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Radials on all four corners.
Insane? Definitely. Do we want to go for a ride anyway? Do you even have to ask…
