Many of us grew up dreaming of being a race car driver, but alas for most of us, they will forever remain dreams. But for Tommy Milner, the latest addition to the Corvette Racing team and replacement for Johnny O’Connell (who is now racing Cadillacs), racing is just his job. Of course, his job comes with a lot of perks, not least of which is getting to drive the awesome C6.R Corvette.

The closest any of us will ever get to driving the C6.R is in Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed, and Autoblog came across this video of Tommy Milner setting some pretty impressive lap times in the upcoming video game.

The video is part of a promotion for NFS: Shift 2, and shows Milner hot lapping the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track in the Compuware GT1 Corvette C6.R. Without any of the game’s driving aids, Milner managed to knock down a 1.21:709, just two seconds from the GT1 class record of 1.19:304. Milner will have a chance to tackle the real Laguna Seca this September.

Tommy Milner, who is just 25 years old, took home the team and manufacturers’ championship last year for BMW, putting most of his similarly-aged peers to shame. Corvette Racing snatched him up and put him in the #3 Compuware car alongside Jan Magnussen. The two were able to place 3rd in the opening race at the 12 Hours of Sebring (while the two Olivers followed up in fourth place.) Do you guys plan on buying Need for Speed: Shift 2, and if so do you think you can beat the GT1 lap record in the C6.R Corvette?
