Video: The 2014 Corvette Stingray’s Role in the “Kaz” Documentary

In the late 1990s, video gaming was moving beyond basements and dorm rooms and into mainstream culture. One of the biggest gaming hits of the entire era was the original Gran Turismo, which focused on cutting-edge (for the time) graphics and dozens of real-life, licensed cars to draw players into a racing simulation experience. Over 10 million copies of the original game have sold, and every entry in the series since then has only gotten better and better.

That’s because of the man behind the series, Kazunori Yamauchi, has been so dedicated in his pursuit of speed and realism. A recent documentary entitled “Kaz: Pushing the Virtual Divide [1]” took a detailed look at Yamauchi’s long racing and video game creation career, and the 2014 Corvette played a big role in this documentary.

While Kaz has made it known that his favorite all-time car is the Ford GT, in the videogame world Kaz prefers the 2014 Corvette Stingray. In this all-too-brief video, we get a quick behind-the-scenes look at what goes into adding a car to the Gran Turismo world. It takes a full film crew equipped with cameras and microphones to capture the authentic feel that Gran Turismo is known for.

This video just gives us a quick sneak peek at all that effort though, and if you really want to appreciate what goes into making a Gran Turismo game, you really should check out the entire documentary on YouTube. There you’ll see a lot more both of this innovative video game designer, and the cutting-edge Corvette Stingray.
