Sidnei Frigo had a bad day at the NHRA SpringNationals at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas last Friday.

Check out this spectacular crash that luckily, he survived with only a broken arm and a bruised hip. The run looked wonky right out of the gates with both Corvette based cars  swerving nervously in their lanes.

Frigo’s white turbocharged ‘Vette hits a cone, which takes a chunk of bodywork with it, and then its all down hill from there. The white ‘Vette veers hard left, goes airborne over the wall and does multiple barrel rolls before landing upside down in the grass.

The good news is, Frigo was responsive when NHRA Safety Safari arrived on the scene and was transported via helicopter to a medical facility for evaluation.

USA Today reports that Frigo underwent surgery on Saturday to repair a broken left arm sustained in a crash Friday night. Frigo, 44, of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was admitted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. NHRA officials said Frigo remained in the hospital following the surgery.

That Frigo escaped relatively unscathed is quite a testament to the car’s roll cage and structural design, not to mention NHRA safety standards and response crews. Looks like there will some late nights ahead sorting through what’s left of the car.

A former NHRA Top Fuel and Top Alcohol Dragster racer, Frigo was also the No. 1 qualifier earlier this year at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals. We’re sending out good vibes to Sidnei and wish him a speedy recovery.
