[1]ZR1? Nope.
We’re always on the lookout for interesting and unusual cars for our sites. Sometimes the ones we find are good, sometimes they’re not so good. Take this Vette you’re looking at now. While we obviously have no quarrels against America’s only true sports car, there are some things about this particular machine we could do without.
The first thing you’re sure to notice is the ZR1 badges attached to the fenders – which immediately makes us giddy like a bunch of school girls, until we glanced at the engine and immediately realized that was not an LS9 blower sitting on top of the engine, but rather, a standard LS3 intake manifold.
The rest of the car has been completely made over in the form of an aftermarket body kit and a set of blingy custom wheels. Oh, and the whole Corvette has been sprayed in a sort of mystic gold that appears to change color while you walk pass it – very 2002!
We watched the video several times, with the hopes that it may be converted from a blown LS9 to a single- or twin-turbo set up. But we believe that this is a standard C6, dressed as a ZR1 with a crazy body kit. We didn’t hear the wastegate/blow off valve, or the whine of the supercharger. Even if it were the case, why would somebody spend so much money in a car, only to cheap out under the hood?
We don’t want to come off as we’re ragging on somebody’s car, because that’s just not our style. But if this were our car, we would have taken a different route. Or at least bought a real ZR1.
