Video: Not Your Typical Corvette Collection, but Well Worth the Look

Out in the Nevada desert, there lies a place so special that it’s almost like a Mecca for some. But we aren’t talking about Las Vegas. Rather, we’re talking about Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in the small town of Pahrump. Home of the highly acclaimed Optima Ultimate Sports Car Invitational that follows the annual SEMA Show in Vegas, Spring Mountain offers a country club for car enthusiasts – instead of a golf course, they offer a full race track to be enjoyed.

Now, Spring Mountain hosts plenty of events, whether they be corporate parties, challenges like the OUSCI or open track days, but one of the major appeals of the facility is the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School. Chock full of Corvettes from Z06 to the new ZR1, this school is every Corvette enthusiast’s dream. Lucky for us, we get a sneak peak at the entire collection of Corvettes and of a day’s fun in this episode of Vette Collections.

Buying a brand new ZR1 means the need for a bit of training behind the wheel of Chevrolet’s most powerful car to date. So GM teamed up with the school to offer new owners a course on driving their new toys – the 638hp ZR1. As a ZR1 owner, Michael Brown, producer of Vette Collections, participated in the course, along with fellow ZR1 owner Lance Miller, which you may recognize from heading Corvettes at Carlisle and his participation in the documentary, The Quest, as well as Errol McKoy, president of the Texas State Fair.

The course consists of classroom time, a garage orientation and plenty of driving time. Naturally, participants are grilled on safety and accident avoidance on a regular basis. Proper maneuvers are practiced over and over to ensure the safest driving situation in these powerful cars as possible.

The Corvette ZR1 is truly a remarkable piece of machinery and Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch makes sure that every new owner of one of these Vettes is prepared for the power they hold on the road. The stable of cars they hold at Spring Mountain isn’t too bad either.
