If you visit Corvette Online with some frequency, you probably saw some of our coverage regarding Chevrolet’s new beast, the 2015 Z06. Some of us were fortunate enough to have been invited out to Spring Mountain Motor Resort for a complete “Z06 experience” of which we could not get enough of. Along with everything we were able to experience first hand, our videographer was able to take a ride in a Z07 equipped Z06 at the hands of a professional, in this case a Ron Fellows Performance Driving School instructor.
If you are unfamiliar with the Z07 package, it’s effectively Chevy’s factory-built track car package. The package includes: Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and an aerodynamics package that includes side skirts and front and rear diffusers with removable canards in the front and an adjustable rear spoiler sitting just behind the rear deck lid.
Thanks to a combination of theses technologies, a Z07 equipped car will come to a complete stop from 60 mph in a mere 99.6-feet. In regards to mechanical traction limits, the Z07 will sustain 1.2 g of lateral acceleration on the skid pad, although you see it momentarily exceeds this on the road course.
No matter the number of options the 2015 Z06 is built with, it is still one amazing piece of machinery. While each generation of Corvette has improved upon the one before it, the C7 Stingray really took a leap forward from all of its predecessors. The new Z06 only compounds this leap and as you’ve seen in the video, makes for one hell of a track car.
