Video: Jay Leno Reviews The Corvette Stingray

Whenever a new Jay Leno’s Garage [1] video is released, we can’t help but get excited. He always features some really interesting vehicles, and Jay’s videos are among our favorites out there. We definitely enjoy the way he really gets inside the car to benefit the viewer.

The engine compartment is just one of many areas of the car that we get to learn about in this video from Jay Leno's Garage.

Usually, they are his cars, but other times they’re vehicles belonging to friends, one-off custom cars owned by a small company, or new releases like the 2014 Corvette Stingray. It’s not officially on sale yet, but that didn’t keep Jay from calling his buddy, Ed Welburn, over at GM to get a closer look at the new ‘Vette.

In an unusual twist, the video comes not from Jay’s actual garage, but Brown’s Classic Auto [3], based out of Scottsdale, Arizona. If you couldn’t tell from the name, Brown’s Classic Auto is a classic and vintage car dealer.

In this video, we finally get a chance to get a closer look at the engine bay, trunk compartment, and some of the interesting features that you may have not otherwise heard about. Trick ideas like the hidden storage compartment behind the satellite navigation screen, and of course, the digital center gauge cluster – which is quite similar to the now defunct $375k Lexus LFA supercar’s.

We also get a bit of explanation from Ed Welburn about the controversial square taillights, and why the design team decided to change the old round units that have largely been a staple since 1962.

After watching the video, hearing Welburn’s statements, and the methods of their madness, it begins to make much more sense the direction they’ve taken with Corvette 7. Those pesky Europeans better look out…
