As with lots of other electronic parts that get exposed to the elements, the innards of the electronic door handles on the C6 Corvettes are notorious for getting a little corroded, which causes them to not work properly. Problems like this always seem to rear their ugly heads at the most inconvenient times; like when you are in a hurry to get somewhere, or a group of people are standing around admiring your sweet ride, and you can’t even get the door open. Frustrating, to say the least. Luckily this annoying problem has a pretty simple solution that doesn’t cost much, and just about anyone should be able to do for themselves.

In this video we came across on YouTube, we get a quick look at what is involved in removing and cleaning up the contacts on the inside of the door handles. It’s as simple as unscrewing the handles from your Corvette’s door (once you do get it to open), and opening up the handle’s box to reveal the contacts inside, which will likely be pretty corroded. In the video’s caption, the poster tells us, “I used a Dremel with a wire wheel and then with some contact cleaner. Both door handles took 30 minutes to fix. Made a huge difference.”

So now that you know the easy fix, get out there and take care of your own C6’s door handles before they decide to lock you out of your car next time you go on a date…
