Video: Hennessey ZR1 Takes On Twin Turbo SRT-8 Jeep …In the Rain.

Here in America, if even the slightest little bit of precipitation falls on the track, we pretty much completely shut it down, everyone packs up and heads home. What do Russians do when the rain starts falling at a race event? They turn on the windshield wipers. This is exactly what we see played out in this latest YouTube video from the Russian racers at Dragtimes. The rain starts falling, but no one seems a bit concerned about traction at the triple digit speeds these cars are hitting in the standing mile.

[1]Before we get to the Hennessey ZR1 showdown we’re treated to a traction limited battle between a Mercedes E63 AMG Evotech Stage 3 with 730 horsepower and a bone stock Mercedes S65 AMG with 612 HP. Both cars reaching speeds reportedly in the mid-170 MPH range. Next up, it’s an SRT-8 Jeep with twin turbos that makes 1,200 horsepower, and a Porsche 911 Turbo S MK.2 530 horsepower duking it out. The Jeep stumbles and can’t get grip for some reason, and the Porsche handily defeats it reaching upwards of 170 MPH as it plows through the rain.

[2]Finally, we make it to the Hennessey [3] Corvette ZR1 versus 1,200 horsepower Jeep showdown. The all-wheel-drive Jeep absolutely dusts the ZR1 off the line and shuts it down right about the quarter-mile mark. This is when the ZR1 takes off like it was shot out of a cannon. Dragtimes says that the ZR1 clipped 292.2 kilometers per hour which translates to just over 181 MPH. Not bad for racing on what equates to a Slip-and-Slide, eh?
