Video: Hennessey Takes a 2014 Corvette to the Drag Strip

The 2014 Corvette is finally here, and after nine long months of teasing GM must finally release this beast into the hands of eager fans. No doubt many new 2014 Corvette Stingray owners, like Rick Hendrick [1], plan to store their cars away in climate-controlled garages for all eternity. But others have just one thing in mind for their latest toy; handing it over to their tuner of choice and twisting as much power and speed out of the new Chevy supercar as possible.

It’s not the least bit surprising that Hennessey Performance Engineering [2] is one of the first tuners out of the gates with the 2014 Corvette Stingray, posting this video to YouTube. The race is on.

The video is short, sweet, and delivers the timeslips and sounds we were looking for. Despite (or perhaps because of, depending on how much value you place on automatics at the dragstrip) being equipped with an automatic transmission, the 2014 Corvette clips off a 12.23 second quarter mile at 114 MPH without any fuss or drama. The Corvette just does what it’s told, and we’re left a little speechless.

This is without any modification from Hennessey, which has already announced plans for a 1,000 horsepower twin-turbo upgrade package [5]. Once they’ve worked their magic, it isn’t difficult to imagine the Corvette breaking into the single digits. And what of GM itself? The bar is suddenly set very high for the new Corvette, and the rumored twin-turbo Z07 could be knocking on the door to the 10-second quarter mile club. From there, to where? We can’t wait to find out.
