We’ve told you about Genovation before and it looks like these guys are up to their old bag of tricks again. Instead of resting on their laurels, they’ve just set another record for fastest street-legal electric car. AutoGuide brings us the story.
A heavily modded, electrified C6 Corvette called the Genovation GXE, went 209mph at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds at the Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida, breaking its own precord of 205.6 mph. This car is a prototype, but the actual production model will utilize the seventh-generation Corvette as it’s base.
All the records have been certified independently by the International Mile Racing Association (IMRA).
They ditched the LS motor with a dino juice addiction for two electric motors making over 700 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. At regular, legal operating speeds, Genovation claims the car can travel up to 150 miles on a single charge. The GXE is also unique in that it’s available with a choice of gearboxes, either a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. Hunkered down, with a low center of gravity and 50/50 weight distribution, really aids the car in the handling department.
If all this turns you on, Genovation has begun accepting orders for an all-new GXE based on the aforementioned seventh-generation Corvette. Just 75 production GXEs will be built with pricing to start around $750,000. Yikes.
Watch it obliterate the current standing mile record in the video above.
