Video: Flowmaster Tests 7 Different Mufflers On One Small-Block

Though the name “muffler” implies sound deadening, an entire industry has propped up around the idea that the right muffler can make your car sound really, really cool. There are so many ways to alter, limit, and enhance certain engine notes. With so many mufflers available, we could’nt help but showcase this unique video showing what Flowmaster Mufflers can really do.

[1]Flowmaster Mufflers [2], a leading authority in exhaust routing technology, has put together this video comparing seven different mufflers from their catalog on a modified small-block Chevy V8.

The engine is your standard 350ci. small-block Chevy with a 406 stroker kit. It is topped with Brodix cylinder heads and tops out at 7,000 RPM. The headers are 1 ⅞- into a 3.5-inch collector, down to a 3-inch exhaust. From there, it was simply a matter of hooking up the mufflers, cranking the engine, and listening for those different exhaust notes.

The first muffler Flowmaster tests (aside from open headers) is the standard 70 series muffler, which provides a torquey but not too loud sound. From there Flowmaster works its way through the Super 40 and 50 Series, the Hushpower, and more, providing cool cutout views so you can get an idea of the internal differences between different mufflers.

Mufflers are easily one of the most important aspects of your car’s “image.” Which of these mufflers best fits your car’s mood?
