Video: Corvette Z06 Takes Care of Old Tires the Right Way

We all love cars, though we must acknowledge the fact that there are a lot of hidden costs when it comes to car ownership. Oil changes, air filters, and especially tires must all be replaced during regular maintenance in order to ensure your car runs properly. For performance cars in particular, like the Chevy Corvette, tires can be an expensive proposition. So we can understand why the driver in this next video wanted to get the most bang for his buck out of his old tires. And what better way to do that than to roast, ‘em, toast ‘em, and post a video to the YouTube for our viewing pleasure.

[1]The car in question is a 2002 C5 Corvette Z06 with a 405 horsepower LS6 V8 under the hood (a 20 horsepower increase over the 2001 model). With 400 ft-lbs of torque on tap, and even in stock form this Corvette has plenty of power to shred some rubber.

The Z06 isn’t a cheap car, and neither are its tires. The high performance rubber can cost $400 per tire [2] or more (though there are always cheaper options), meaning that four new tires would run you upwards of $1,600. At that cost, no wonder the driver wanted to make sure he gave his old tires a good send off, and get the most fun out of those tires that he could. Bravo sir, bravo.
