If you’re a well-to-do person in America, and you just happen to be a car enthusiast, there are a great many vehicles and tracks at your disposal. It can be quite the conundrum when faced with buying either a $80,000 Nissan, a $80,000 Chevy, or a $80,000 BMW. What’s a rich guy with a need for speed to do?

Well maybe this video of a Corvette Z06 using old school rear-wheel drive and pushrod V8 technology overtaking one of the premier Japanese supercars at a Texas race track will help you make up your mind.

Called “Godzilla” by fans and foes alike, the Nissan GT-R is an $80,000 (or it was, before Nissan jacked up the price… – Ed.) performance machine. Powered by a twin-turbo six cylinder engine making about 550 horsepower and utilizing an advanced all-wheel drive system, Godzilla is a formidable foe. You’d think a Chevy Corvette Z06 with just rear-wheel drive and a 505 horsepower pushrod V8 wouldn’t stand a chance.

And yet the Corvette stays on the Nissan’s tail throughout the almost-5-minute “race’ around the Texas race track. While this was just a track day, as opposed to an actual race; no doubt the blood was running hot as these two jockeyed for position. Eventually though, the Nissan GT-R calls it quits, and the old school Corvette soars past. Kind of telling, ain’t it?
