Video: Corvette Trailer #1 Hits The Web Talking Form And Function

General Motors is counting down the days (literally [1]) until the unveiling of the all-new, 2014 Corvette C7 on January 1st, 2013. In an effort to build anticipation for the 2014 Corvette, as though there isn’t enough pent-up enthusiasm to launch a satellite in orbit, GM is slowly rolling out a series of trailers. The first one hit the web this morning, titled Conception, and while it focuses on the exterior of the 2014 Corvette, we don’t get a real clear look at this upcoming Chevy supercar.

[2]Instead, we are treated to a 2014 Corvette test mule hidden under a car cover, followed by a wall full of what we assume are C7 Corvette concept drawings. Are any of these the real deal? Hard to say, as the rest of the 47-second teaser is a bunch of cutaways, with a voiceover from Kirk Bennion, the exterior design manager for the new Corvette.

It should not come as a surprise that the new C7 Corvette is all about aerodynamics. With higher fuel economy standards and more competition from buyers who have unprecedented options available to them, aerodynamics will be key to both performance and efficiency. Much of the video takes place in a massive wind tunnel.

While we don’t get a clear shot of the new Corvette, we do get to hear it start up, and oh how sweet a song it doth sing. Bennion then chimes in about how with sports cars, form follows function, and then follows it up with his own opinion on the matter. The video closes with the words “Every Line Matters” flashing on the screen. What exactly is GM alluding to? We’ll have to wait for the official unveiling to find out.
