Video: Corvette Racing Recaps the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona

In early January, GM pulled the covers back on the all new Corvette Racing C7.R race car. A couple of weeks later the 5.5 liter V8-powered racing prodigy made its track debut at the inaugural Tudor United SportsCar Championship race at the 2014 Rolex 24 in Daytona. Alongside the C7.R was the Corvette Daytona Prototype, which also made its Tudor debut, and finished in the best manner possible, taking the four top positions in the opening race.

This video from Chevrolet recaps that exciting weekend where the Corvette Daytona Prototype came roaring out of the gate. The C7.R had… let’s just say a bit more difficulty, though nothing it can’t bounce back from.

The Corvette Daytona Prototype has very little to do with the production Corvette Stingray, using a modified Chevy small-block to power it to a 1-2-3-4 finish in the opening race of the Tudor series. The C7.R is a lot more production-based, though it uses a smaller engine than the Stingray’s LT1 to fit into the series regulations. And while the C7.R led the GT class, mechanical woes relegated them to settle for one fourth-in-class finish.

Obviously in racing, you can’t expect to win them all, and thankfully for the C7.R team, this is just the first of many races in the 2014 season. There is plenty of time to catch up to their Daytona Prototype cousins in the points standings, and we can think of no better way to welcome the new Corvette to the world than a Tudor Championship.
