Appreciation for America’s sportscar, the Chevrolet Corvette, is not limited to the confines of the United States; it has fans worldwide. Despite the sheer numbers of European sportscars, the Corvette has a distinct and loyal group of followers across the Atlantic. The Corvette Fame show in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Holland took place July 9-10, 2011. Like Corvette gatherings in the US, Corvette Fame features live music, a car show, workshops and a cruise. This annual event draws a multigenerational gathering of Corvettes that dominate the streets of Valkenburg with a cruise through the narrow twisting streets of the city. A YouTube video captured the beauty of the contingent of Corvettes as evening cruise event wound through the city.
It is impressive to see cars spanning all generations of the name; how often does anyone get to see a first generation between two C6’s in Holland? It may seem like a regular occurrence in Bowling Green, but in Europe it may not been so common. C4 and C5 Corvettes dominate the video montage, but the other generations are not ignored. Thanks to the love affair with GM, Corvette Fame even allowed a 70’s era Pontiac Trans Am to take part in the Friday evening festivities. Regardless of the Euro-techno background audio, it is hard to find fault with several Z06 models meandering through the streets.
