Video: C7 Corvettes at the Drag Strip

The 2014 Corvette Stingray [1] is the culmination of 60 years of GM engineering expertise, building what is arguably the highest-performing, most affordable sports car in the world. Capable of delivering almost 30 MPG on the highway and sporting a cutting-edge aluminum chassis, the 2014 Stingray also has a suspension that helps it pull more lateral acceleration than any predecessor.

Despite all of these advancements though, some people just want to drag race. So here’s two and a half minutes of 2014 Corvettes at the drag strip, pulling off some truly impressive (and terrible) times in the new Chevy supercar.

One of the many new features GM included was a “Launch Control” system designed to take the guesswork out of drag racing. By controlling the power to the rear tires, drivers just have to to bring the ‘Vette up to the appropriate RPM and off they go! Still, some people prefer to shift for themselves, including an unnamed “professional drag racer” who pulled off the worst time of the night, a 15.85.

That’s not indicative of the 2014 ‘Vette’s performance at all though, as most of the runs were solidly in the 11-second range at around 120 MPH. We’re not sure if all of these cars were stock, or in someway modified, but the times were fairly consistent. The best run of the night belonged to the red Corvette, which pulled off an 11.4 at 123.85 MPH. While some will say that drag racing is a waste of the new Stingray’s potential, it sure is a hell of a lot of fun…
