Video: Autoweek Drives the C7

The praise just keeps on pouring in for the 2014 Corvette [1]. On Monday, we brought you MotorTrend’s review [2] of the new Stingray, where Carlos Lago confessed his love for what he felt was the finest Corvette he’d ever driven.

And now, we can add Autoweek’s review to that list. Judging by the above video, the Corvette’s performance was leaps and bounds ahead of what was expected.

autoweekc7drive [3]As Mac Morrison, Senior Editor of Motorsports said, “I really don’t feel like I’m in a big car; in a Corvette for the first time in my life, it’s an amazing feeling… it inspires a lot of confidence and makes me feel like I could throw it around just like I would in something like a Porsche.”

Morrison was impressed by the ease with which the new Corvette was able to switch cogs. With its new flywheel made to help reduce the labor on the synchros, the sports car was able to mesh gears and apply power to the rear much more smoothly than before.

The chassis has gotten much more rigid with a redesigned aluminum build. Tadge Juechter, the chief engineer and vehicle line director for the Corvette, comments that the C7’s steering system was completely revamped to provide a much stiffer–almost 5 times–feel to the car.

Wheels and brakes, steering and drivetrain, engine and exhaust; it all comes together to provide the gestalt of the new Corvette, a vehicle that looks to shock and amaze anyone who gets behind its wheel. We at Corvette Online can’t wait to conduct a test of our own.
