Video: 2015 Corvette Stingray Gets Dash Cam – Great for Track Days

vette1 [1]The new Corvette Stingray [2] has broken ground for the Corvette faithful on many new technologies, among them the use of Direct Injection and Active Fuel Management. Word comes to us that the 2015 iteration of the car gets yet another new technology – a built-in dash camera system, dubbed the Performance Data Recorder.

By using the built-in GPS module and a dash camera capable of recording both audio and video, PDR is another step ahead in technology for America’s sports car. It’s a telemetry recorder that will allow Stingray drivers to record themselves both on and off the racetrack. Chevrolet shows off the technology in this sweet video above, taken with Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner at the wheel of  a 2015 Stingray, attacking the turns at Sebring International Raceway.

The PDR System On Display Through Milford Proving Grounds

As you’ll note, the PDR shows MPH, RPM, the selected gear, and g-forces. Also displayed on the screen are throttle and brake-pedal forces, lap times, and even steering angle, along with a GPS moving map of the track. Milner narrates the video, explaining how he was driving the car on the track and relating the video to the car’s performance.

Performance Data Recorder How-To With Steve Wesoloskie of Cosworth

The PDR system will be available for purchase on all 2015 Stingray models. It’s accessed through the in-dash infotainment home screen, and according to Wesoloskie it can be activated within two clicks. The feature set offers a ton of options, even down to 0-60, 0-100, and quarter-mile elapsed times.

This is incredible technology that costs in the thousands of dollars when purchased through the aftermarket, and GM has seen fit to include it as a production option. And of course, we can’t wait for the inevitable rash of dash-cam videos showing Corvettes driving off the road, because we all know ditches LOVE Corvettes…
