It’s been quite the year for Corvette enthusiasts, from the production of the last C6s to the introduction of the brand new 2014 C7 model. Unfortunately, however, for almost a year now, Corvette aficionados have not been able see the official transition of generations at the exclusive Y-body assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. But, that’s about to change as GM [2] and the National Corvette Museum [3] just announced that public plant tours will resume on Monday October 14th. Obviously, reservations are highly recommended for this special plant reopening as a whole influx of gearheads is expected to converge on the plant to catch a glimpse of the C7 production [4] in progress.
[5]Last fall, the Bowling Green Corvette assembly plant [6], which has been the home of Corvette production since 1981, was shut down for public tours so that a $131 million renovation could be completed.
This renovation was specifically aimed at preparing the plant for the production of the next-generation Corvette.
Although the Bowling Green plant has undergone a serious upgrade since last fall, the one-mile public walking tour [7] of the plant remains priced at just $7 per person.
[8]Plant tours are offered Monday through Friday at 8:30 AM, 11:30 AM, and 2 PM daily. Reservations are strongly recommended!
The renovation also shut down customer programs like Museum Delivery, Buyer Tours and the Corvette Photo Album program for some time.
With the Bowling Green plant reopening for public tours, customer programs are also back up and running, meaning anyone with a C7 Corvette already ordered through their local dealership can now begin taking part in exclusive incentives only offered to Corvette buyers.
Museum Delivery [9] for the new C7 Corvettes is currently priced at $990, while the Buyers Tour costs $800 and the special Corvette Photo Album costs $700. The tour and album can be combined for $1,300. The photo album can be purchased whether a customer opts for dealership delivery or Museum Delivery.
The Bowling Green assembly plant has been a vital part of Corvette production for over 30 years now and with the C7 models just recently starting to roll off the assembly floor [10], we can’t wait to see what kind of events the plant reopening will bring.
